Frequently Asked Questions

We gathered the answers to some popular questions below. If you can’t find your question below, feel free to contact us and we’ll be happy to help.

Is it necessary for Tommy or George to visit my home to provide a design or quotation?

Discussions usually start with a quick phone call. This is an opportunity for you to provide a broad idea of what it is you are looking to have made.

Depending on the complexity of the design, an estimate can often be provided during these discussions. However, for a comprehensive design and quote, measurements, photos and sketches of the space are necessary so we would always recommend a home visit immediately after this.

How long will a home visit take?

Please allow between 1 and 1.5 hours for a home visit. This is usually a sufficient amount of time to carry out a full survey and discuss exactly what it is you are after. Some clients have a very clear idea of what it is they want, right down to the smallest detail, others are a little more vague but turn to us for ideas and inspiration.

Either way, this is the perfect opportunity to break things down together and start turning your dream furniture into reality.

How quickly can I expect to see the design and quotation?

Following the home visit, we usually ask for a week to put together a drawing and quotation. More complicated designs may take a little longer, particularly if less traditional materials are being used as these need to be sourced, but we will clarify this during the visit.

Do we need to remove the existing features such as picture rails and skirting?

Not if you don’t want us to. We appreciate that many old houses in particular bring with them beautiful original features such as skirting, dado and picture rails and coving. We appreciate that many clients love these features in their home, even when hidden, so we always carefully and neatly scribe around them to protect them from damage.

We are getting new flooring or carpet laid as well, should we do this before or after?

Either way is fine but on the whole, we would usually suggest laying the floor after the fit. All professional flooring or carpet fitters will do a very good job laying the floor neatly and seamlessly up to the units.

I have a plug socket in the space I still want to use, what do you suggest we do with this?

There are several options here. The first is relocation, which can usually be easily achieved by any electrician. However, there are also ways for us to make sure you can still access the existing plug sockets in their original place, all of which we can advise you on during the visit.

What if my walls/floors aren’t level?

In our experience, there isn’t a house in the country with a perfectly level wall or floor. We however ensure the units are fitted into the spaces level and plum and use various techniques to work with uneven surfaces to bring it together. So there is no need to worry about uneven floors, walls or ceilings.

What type of materials do you use?

This is entirely dependent on the design and its purpose but on the whole, we use high-density moisture-resistant MDF as this gives great strength and stability to the units, whilst also providing a quality surface to give a perfectly flat and clean painted finish.

That said, we have often worked with many alternatives, including solid woods, such as oak and pine, veneers and birch plywood.

What is the lead time for manufacturing?

Lead time to start depends entirely on demand. We aim to start within three months of visiting but it can be much sooner than is.

How many days will you need to fit my new fitted furniture?

Once again, this does depend on the design but as an example, a double-fitted wardrobe or full alcove unit will take around 2-3 days to install. For larger or multiple units, please allow at least a full week (Monday-Friday). We do our best to coordinate with you based on your availability as well.
